Lawmakers support bill providing additional benefits to public school teachers
QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Some lawmakers have expressed support for the plan to amend some provisions of the Republic Act No. 8291 or the Government Service Insurance System Act of 1997.
Particulary pertaining to the additional benefits for all public school teachers.
Under the House Bill No. 1087 or will be known as ‘Public School Teacher’s Insurance Act of 2016,’ all teachers who are active in service are entitled to receive 200,000 pesos death benefits and 50,000 pesos burial expenses.
Also, the reimbursement of medical expenses up to 100,000 of active and retired teachers.
The Alliance of Concerned Teachers believes that this bill, if passed into a law, will greatly benefit the teachers.
The salary of an entry-level public school teacher amounts to only around 14,000 pesos.
Under the current GSIS policy, teachers only receive around 12,000 pesos funeral benefits. — Nel Maribojoc / UNTV News & Rescue
