The Department of Tourism (DOT), and Singapore-based Republic Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday at the office of the Cebu provincial government.
The signing is in line with the three-year tourism and hospitality capability development program being held in the province.
About 120 representatives are expected to benefit from the best practices the two Singapore-based institutes will share. The participants are from different local government units or LGUs, hotels, museums and travel and tour service providers across the country.
“The provincial government through the provincial tourism office continuous to work towards community-based sustainable tourism in line with the provincial government’s goal of sustained and inclusive growth in the countryside. We want our communities to take pride of what is local, authentic and homegrown,” Cebu province Governor Hilario Davide III said.
The first part of the program was held on Thursday through a workshop where participants listened to discussions about the “best practices in tourism development” by one of the most developed countries in the world — Singapore.
The representatives are also expected to have a study visit in Singapore to learn more about the highly successful tourism industry of the country.
“We encourage the participants to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about tourism services and up skilling for this competitive market place. This exchange will let us draw on both education and experiences to learn and apply new knowledge and competency,” DOT- Tourism Regulation, Coordination & Resource Generation Usec. Alma Rita Jimenez said.
