MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) filed on Thursday, 14 tax evasion complaints worth more than P260-million before the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Among those facing complaints are 11 delinquent taxpayers from Metro Manila and Pangasinan who all failed to pay their taxes from 2008 to 2011.
The BIR also filed a complaint against a businessman based in Manila after authorities caught him selling cigarettes with fake tax stamps.
Two companies based in Makati are also facing complaints for using fake tax clearance certificates.
“This is a reminder, again, for our taxpayers that the BIR is serious in implementing the criminal provisions of the tax code. The rate program is very much alive and implemented by the BIR,” BIR Assistant Commissioner Atty. James Roldan said. – UNTV News & Rescue
