MANILA, Philippines – The P3.76-trillion proposed budget of the administration for 2018 is now in the Senate plenary.
Provisions of the Senate version include the allocation of P189.5-million for the implementation of Centenarians Act.
Particularly the P100,000 cash assistance for senior citizens aged 100 years and above.
Also, the Senate has proposed P10-billion for the rehabilitation of war-torn Marawi City and P120-million for the installation of navigation marks in the sea within the territory of the Philippines, including the Philippine Rise.
In the proposed budget of the Philippine National Police, P100-million is allocated for the installation of CCTV cameras at the Command Center, while P50-million is allotted for the procurement of body cameras to be used in police operations.
The Senate also retained the PNP’s budget for its Oplan Tokhang.
“We allocated P900-million to the PNP to support its campaign against illegal drugs as well as P1.2- billion for the operating requirements of the PDEA,” Senate Committee on Finance chairperson Sen. Loren Legarda said.
But the minority bloc plans to block the said proposal.
“We will move to delete that P900-million . . . personally, mas magandang ilagay ito sa (it would be better to put this in) rehabilitation centers, community rehab program,” Liberal Party Sen. Bam Aquino said.
The Senate has also extended the hours and days of the sessions in order to achieve its target of passing the proposed 2018 national budget before the end of the year. – Nel Maribojoc | UNTV News & Rescue
