Incoming military chief Lt. Gen. Rey Leonardo Guerrero

“He is a very good officer both admin and operation, AFP is in good hands under Gen. Guerrero.”

This has been what outgoing AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Eduardo Año said about the incoming military chief Lt. Gen. Rey Leonardo Guerrero.

Año said Guerrero will follow a plan in fighting groups that would sow violence in the country.

“The AFP is a professional organization. We have set already our campaign plans against CPP-NPA, Maute ISIS Group, Abu Sayyaf and other threat groups so everything is set and there is a blueprint,” Año said.

Gen. Año also thanked the men of the AFP for the help they provided him during his term, especially during the biggest crisis the Philippine Military has ever faced — the Marawi City rebellion.

“I’m really thankful under my watch which is very challenging period for the AFP because of the crisis in Marawi and finally it is over and I’m thankful that AFP was able to do it by my mandate and I owe it to the contributions of every individual and soldier especially those who fought in Marawi,” Año said.

He said, if possible, he prefers to take a rest before working in the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

“The exact date still has to be negotiated because I want to rest a bit. But if they will ask me to work already, I can’t do anything about it. That’s another calling,” Año said.

Since there is a one year ban before sitting as the DILG Chief, Año said he will accept any position the President will give him, noting he just wants to continue serving in the government. – Lea Ylagan | UNTV News & Rescue
