MANILA, Philippines — Principal complainant Atty. Larry Gadon has refused to name the high-ranking official of the Supreme Court (SC), whom he claims, asked him to withdraw the impeachment complaint he filed against SC Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.
“When I requested documents, the official said I should not continue it… for me, people like that official could not convince me,” Gadon said.
Atty. Gadon noted he has strong evidence against the country’s top magistrate.
On the other hand, the camp of Chief Justice Sereno said it is a positive development.
“It is a welcome news for us it means there is someone from the Supreme Court supporting the chief justice,” Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno’s spokesperson, Atty. Josa Deinla said.
Gadon said the loads of evidence he will present during the hearing on the said impeachment complaint is near completion.
In the said deliberation, the House Committee on Justice will determine if the complaint has probable cause.
The principal complainant said the most serious among the allegations are the issues pertaining to her Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Networth (SALN), falsification of public resolutions and betrayal of public trust.
“In the betrayal of public trust, we can cluster in that her extravagant lifestyle like her purchase of vehicles, and her travels abroad,” Gadon said.
The camp of the Sereno is now preparing to defend the SC Chief Justice.
“They are counting on Chief Justice being allowed to cross-examine the witnesses to be presented against her to propound cross-examination questions through her counsel,” Deinla said. – Grace Casin | UNTV News & Rescue
