MANILA, Philippines – Beginning October 30th to November 2nd, the Department of Health (DOH) will place all its hospitals and regional offices on code white alert.

Under code white alert, hospital staff members will be on standby 24/7 to respond to any health-related incidents that may occur.

Based on the Administrative Order No. 2008- 0024 issued by the DOH, all general and orthopedic surgeons, anesthesiologists, internists, and nurses are ordered to prepare to respond to any emergency situation.

“Not all who visit cemeteries are physically fit. Some of them might experience sudden medical emergencies like headaches, vomiting, and fever. I hope it doesn’t happen, but commotion could occur in crowded areas,” DOH spokesperson Dr. Lyndon Lee Suy said.

According to Dr. Suy, health authorities are also reminding the public to maintain the cleanliness of the cemeteries.

“What happens is a picnic. We see it yearly on TV. There are a lot of wastes after the Undas. So I guess, we should be responsible enough to bring a garbage bag . . . grocery bag where we can put our wastes into,” Suy said.

Suy also advised Filipinos who will visit their departed loved ones in cemeteries to bring their own food that does not easily spoil instead of buying food items from nearby stalls.

The health official also called on parents not to bring their small children to cemeteries as much as possible. Suy said this is to prevent exposing children to diseases or keep them from being crushed in the crowd in case of a commotion or stampede.

Those with health conditions are also advised to bring their medication to avoid getting dizzy or sick while in cemeteries.

Suy also said the public should also bring umbrellas to shield themselves from the harmful rays of the sun and protect them from rains especially since the weather condition keeps changing.
