ZAMBOANGA, Philippines — Fisherfolks can begin fishing sardines at the East Sulu Sea, Basilan Strait and Sibuguey Bay following the lifting of the three-month sardine-fishing ban.
According to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), the three-month fishing ban helped multiply the number of sardines.
In 2011, the closed fishing season began after fewer catches of sardines was reported due to unregulated manner of fishing. — UNTV News & Rescue
