MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) destroyed more than 1,000 kilograms of illegal drugs worth P 2.56 billion on Friday morning.
The illicit drugs which were destroyed through thermal decomposition include methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, marijuana, cocaine, ephedrine and several expired drugs.
According to PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino, it was the agency’s second-biggest destruction of illegal drugs.
“The first one was actually sometime in November when we destroyed about 6 billion worth of dangerous drugs,” said the director general.
Aquino noted that the agency still has to destroy around P 9-billion worth of illicit drugs.
Meanwhile, PDEA will ask for additional funds for next year to strengthen the agency’s capacity in its fight against illegal drugs. — UNTV News & Rescue
