Sen. Bam Aquino comment on NFA issue

MANILA, Philippines — The National Food Authority Council  (NFAC) has yet to receive a formal report on the news that there is no more supply of NFA rice in Metro Manila.

Assistant Secretary Jonas Soriano of the Office of the Cabinet Secretary said that if the reports were true, it would pose a question on the management of the National Food Authority.

“Talagang isang kwestyon yan dahil napansin din namin sa NFA report nung October, November, December, marami silang binenta na bigas,” said the assistant secretary.

(That really is a question because we noticed in the NFA report last October, November, December, they were able to sell much rice. )

Based on the discussions during a special meeting last March 19 which President Rodrigo Duterte attended himself, there is a need to speed up the auditing in the NFA.

“But this also raises the question: why did this happen? Kung kaya’t isa sa mga resolusyon (That’s why one of the resolutions is) to already pursue independent audit by COA to the operation of management,” said Soriano.

Soriano, however, said the public has nothing to worry about even on the possibility that commercial rice prices might also go up due to the depleting supply of NFA rice.

“Hindi rin dapat maapektuhan ang presyo ng bigas because the rice price will not rise unless you control nationwide 10 to 15% of the rice distribution,” said the official.

(The prices of rice should not be affected because the rice price will not rise unless you control nationwide 10 to 15% of the rice distribution.)

Malacañang has also assured the public that there is enough supply of rice in the country.

Meanwhile, Senator Bam Aquino has once again called for the resignation of the NFA administrator due to the continuous depletion of the supply of NFA rice in the country. — Nel Maribojoc | UNTV News & Rescue
