MANILA, Philippines — Once President Rodrigo Duterte approves the closure of Boracay, the government will continue to fix drainage systems around the island.

They will also coordinate with water concessionaires to replace old sewer lines or waterways.

Garbage problems will also be fixed under the expected 6-month temporary shutdown.

But the Department of Tourism (DOT) clarified that 50,000 residents can still live within the area as business establishments are also permitted to operate once it will be approved.

“No tourist arrivals into the island from Caticlan. But since there are 50,000 residents there, they will continue to be allowed entry and stay in Boracay,” said DOT Asec. Frederic Monsod Alegre. — Mai Bermudez | UNTV News & Rescue
