MANILA, Philippines — The Davao City government and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have halted road constructions in Barangay Callawa in Buhangin, Barangay Fatima in Paquibato and Barangay Dalagdag in Calinan.
This comes after suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) set on fire 10 heavy equipment used in constructing roads in the three villages
The local government wanted to ensure the area’s safety from NPA attacks before continuing the P1.3-billion bypass road project.
“The contractor suspended or stopped the operations muna (for now) until the area is cleared or the peace and order in this area is stable,” DPWH XI information officer 11 Dean Ortiz said.
Four dump trucks, five backhoes and a bulldozer estimated to amount to P65-million were damaged in the separate attacks.
They are also in contact with the said project’s contractor so as not to prolong the delay in the road project
“We have to wait for the instruction. Ongoing yung coordinating conference natin with the peace and order council (Our coordinating conference with the peace and order council is ongoing) ,” DCPO spokesperson Teresita Gaspa said.
The AFP and PNP have also been conducting a pursuit operation against perpetrators of the incident.
Construction on the said road is expected to help ease the volume of traffic in the city.
“This project will definitely bring a big impact to the congestion of the traffic in the city; for the easy access to anywhere. This will help a lot in the development of our city,” said Davao City Councilor Danny Dayanghirang. — Janice Ingente | UNTV News & Rescue
