MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP), National Capital Region Police (NCRPO) chief PDir. Oscar Albayalde has confirmed that several police officers and employees of the government have been going to casinos.

Abayalde said they will not hesitate to arrest them once they are caught in the act.

“Kung talagang may papasok, zero tolerance tayo dito. Ito ay kautusan ng ating pangulo at iimplement natin ito strictly,” said Albayalde.

(If any of our men will enter [a casino] there will be zero tolerance for them. It is a directive from the president and we will strictly implement it.)

This stems from the arrest of Supt. Adrian Antonio who is now in the custody of the PNP Southern Police District.

Antonio is the police caught gambling at a casino in Parañaque City.

PNP Directorate for Operations PDir. Camilo Cascolan was shocked that the said police official became addicted to gambling.

“Sana mabago natin o marehab natin si Adrian. At the same time, we do not condemn him. It’s just happened that he made the risk going to the casino. It’s a PRRD directive and we are very strict about that,” said the police officer.

(I hope we could change Adrian or put him in rehab. At the same time, we do not condemn him. It’s just happened that he made the risk going to the casino. It’s a PRRD directive and we are very strict about that.)

Antonio is also expected to be placed under lifestyle check.

Albayalde said Antonio is now facing charges.

“He is under the custody of the Southern Police District. He is now facing a case for violating Article 231 of the Revised Penal Code and the ethical standard of the Government Employees Code of Conduct and violation of Memorandum No. 6 coming from the president,” said Albayalde.

It can be recalled that last January, the PNP and Pagcor placed signage telling cops and government workers are not allowed inside casinos. — Lea Ylagan | UNTV News & Rescue
