MANILA, Philippines — The Police Regional Office-6 will deploy 500 police officers to provide security in Boracay during its closure beginning on April 26.
According to Aklan Provincial Police Office 2nd Company Mobile Force Commander PSupt. Ryan Manongdo, he has ordered his men to observe maximum tolerance in the island.
The police official said they need to ensure the welfare of the residents who may be affected by the closure.
“More on customer service. We have briefed them to be more sensitive in terms of the issue on maximum tolerance,” said the police officer.
The police have also prepared contingency plans although the guidelines for the closure of Boracay are yet to be completed.
There will also be civil disturbance management group that will be deployed to maintain the orderliness of possible protest rallies
Police operations are also set against threats, as well as a special operations unit for individuals or groups who might carry firearms or resist arrest.
Even before the announcement of the closure of the island, a Metro Boracay Task Force has already been deployed to the area to provide security.
This includes the implementation of a single entry and exit points where authorities will inspect those entering and leaving the area.
The police will also make rounds around the island and will also monitor demolition activities.
“We have planned different solutions to different reactions of the people,” said Monongdo.
Although there is no master plan yet for the rehabilitation of Boracay, President Rodrigo Duterte has assured that there is a P2-billion budget for those who will be affected by its temporary closure.
The president also said he will not allow the construction of casinos on the island.
“My orders were to clean it up. So, when there is a cleanup, it would be closed. There’s one way in, one way out. Consider Boracay a land reform area. I will give it to the farmers, to the Filipinos first. Why I would give it to casinos? What would Filipinos get from them? I will issue a proclamation.
