MANILA, Philippines — Majority of Filipinos want the Duterte government to focus more on urgent national issues such as wage increase, price control on basic commodities and reducing poverty.
This is revealed in the latest “Ulat ng Bayan” survey conducted by Pulse Asia released Tuesday.
The Pulse Asia survey, conducted from March 23 to 28 on 1,200 respondents, reveals that 50 percent of Filipinos believe salary increase is the most urgent issue that the government needs to address. Meanwhile, 45 percent think it was controlling inflation.
Urgent national concerns included poverty reduction with 35 percent and job creation with 32 percent.
Only a small percentage of the respondents considered territorial defense (6%,) anti-terrorism efforts (4%,) and charter change (3%) as immediate.
From the results of the survey, the pollster concluded that Filipinos are more urgent concerned about economic issues than political controversies.
Malacañang affirmed the result of the survey.
“Pareho naman po ng concern yan ng ating presidente. Mas komportableng buhay din ang nais nating ibigay sa ating mga kababayan. So nagtutugma po ang kagustuhan ating mga mamamayan doon sa nais makamit ni President Duterte,” Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said.

Among the controversial issues relating to economics during the time of the survey were: increase in inflation rate by 3.9% between January and February 2018; increase in the power rates of the Manila Electric Company and the Boracay closure. — Nel Maribojoc | UNTV News & Rescue
