The replica gun confiscated from gun ban violator, Sonny Reyes
MANILA, Philippines — Police on patrol chanced upon Sonny Reyes holding a replica gun Tuesday night at Jose Basa Street in Tondo, Manila.
Reyes said he was not aware that firearm replicas are not allowed during a gun ban.
“Pinagawa po sa akin ‘yun eh. Ngayon, hinihintay ko po ‘yung tutubos na may-ari eh sakto naman pong dumaan ang mga operatiba ng Station 7, nakita po sa akin,” explained Reyes.
(I was asked to repair it. I was waiting for the owner to claim it when Station 7 operatives saw me holding the replica.)
The law prohibits the carrying of firearms, even replicas, and other deadly weapons while a gun ban is in force.
Reyes is currently detained at the Tayuman Police Community Precinct and will face complaint for violating the Omnibus Election Code.
Based on the latest record of the National Election Monitoring Action Center (NEMAC), number of arrests over gun ban violations has reached 1,100.
Authorities have already confiscated more than 900 guns and over 6,700 deadly weapons.
