OBANDO, Bulacan – The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region III reported the actual damage of the fish kill that hit an estimated 130 hectares of milkfish farms in Obando, Bulacan.

In a press statement Friday, May 7, the agency said the fish kill was “triggered by unfavorable environmental factors particularly due to intense heat which coincided with low tide level.”

The fish kill, according to the agency’s latest assessment, has resulted in the 250-metric-ton loss of milkfish stocks amounting to around P29 million.

It has now affected 40 fish pen operators of seven barangays in Obando. – UNTV News and Rescue
