PASIG CITY, Philippines – The Department of Education (DepEd) Election Task Force Operation and Monitoring Center concluded that the conduct of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on Monday, May 14, was “generally peaceful.”

As of 3:00 p.m., polling precincts officially closed and started the canvassing of votes in all 177 thousand precincts across the country.

Despite reports of harassment in some areas in Metro Manila and several provinces, DepEd said they have received only one major concern, and that was the alleged changing of poll clerk and third member of electoral board in Dalig Elementary School in Antipolo City. Upon confirmation, DepEd said the individuals involved were not teachers but registered voters.

As expected, majority of the complaints received by DepEd hotlines were about missing names in polling centers. There were also complaints from teachers who have not received their transportation allowances and about some delays in the delivery of election paraphernalia.

Nevertheless, DepEd said there were no serious concerns that reached the command center as of this writing. – Mai Bermudez | UNTV News & Rescue
