NUEVA ECIJA, Philippines – The local government of Talavera in Nueva Ecija plans to increase the number of milking carabaos or buffalos to further improve the town’s dairy production.

The town of Talavera is one of the largest dairy industries in the country. It is among the major contributors of carabao milk at the Philippine Carabao Center.

PCC hopes that the Talavera dairy industry would help the center achieve its target of 10 percent increase in carabao milk production by the year 2022.

“Marami na kaming mga emerging mga dairy farms mga coop na ngayon ay successful din. Pero iyong dalawang pinalamalalaki, iyon ang mayroon ng market hindi lamang sa probinsya kundi sa mga big malls in Metro Manila.” Talavera Maypr Nerivi Santos-martinez said.

(We have many successful emerging dairy farms, but the two largest  are the ones with an established market not only in the province but also in Metro Manila malls.)

Meanwhile, in line with the observance of “Linggo ng Magsasaka” (Farmer’s Week) which started Monday, May 14, the municipal government paraded a number of farm buffalos dressed in colorful costumes.

The festivities aim at highlighting the importance of buffalos in farming and in the country’s dairy production. It also hopes to attract more tourists. Aside from buffalo costume contest, the LGU also targets to bag the world record for the largest production of white cheese hopefully by next year. – Danny Munar | UNTV News & Rescue
