Slain elected village chief, Demetrio Mendoza Deomampo
BATANGAS, Philippines – An elected barangay chairman of Busu-Busu in the town of Laurel in Batangas was killed by a riding-in-tandem on Monday morning, May 21.
Initial investigation by Batangas Police revealed that Demetrio Mendoza Deomampo was on his way to his farm lot in Barangay San Jose when the suspects gunned him down.
Authorities are looking into the possible motive of the incident especially related to the concluded elections.
“Tinitingnan natin ang angulo ng politika dahil medyo mahigpit at mainit yung labanan nila nung (We are looking at politics as a motive because the rivalry was intense) last election. Other angles are also being considered,” said PSSupt Edwin Quilates, Officer in Charge of Batangas Provincial Police Office.
Deomampo was declared dead on arrival at the nearby hospital. – Vincent Octavio
