QUEZON CITY, Philippines – The government will create a consolidated list of all drug personalities from different law enforcement agencies in the country.

According to Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Aaron Aquino, they will be meeting with the Philippine National Police (PNP,) the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG,) the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI,) and the Office of the President to create a national watch list on illegal drugs.

The consolidated list aims to prevent confusion and differences among watch lists from various agencies.

“Kaya hindi mo na sasabihin sa barangay, may sarili silang watch list wala na yun. Sa PNP, wala na yun. There will be one national watch list,” said PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino.

(There will no longer be a separate watch list for barangays and the PNP. There will be one national watch list.)

Aquino said there are around 6,000 persons on their watch list which is similar to the copy of President Rodrigo Duterte. He, however, clarified that those names are just suspects and once they have gathered pieces of evidence against the persons, they will transfer the names to the target list.

“Nandoon ka na sa target list, targetin ka na namin,” said Aquino.

(If your name appears on the list, we will go after you.)

The PDEA director noted that authorities are now cleansing about 25% of the country of illegal drugs as they target a drug-free country before the end of President Duterte’s term.

“By 2022 we’re cleared. That’s our projection. That’s our vision,” said Aquino.

To date, the agency said there are still around four million drug users in the country and a total of 4,273 deaths recorded from legitimate police operations. – Rey Pelayo / Marje Pelayo
