Marawi City

An estimated 20,000 students are expected to turn up at the opening of classes in Marawi City on Monday, June 4,

This is why over 200 police and soldiers have been deployed to various schools across the city.

According to Marawi City Police, they have the security of each school under control and assured residents of the students’ safety.

Other than security, authorities are also monitoring traffic management in anticipation of the expected heavy traffic as school opens.

Meanwhile, 40 elementary and high schools located in unaffected areas of Marawi are back in operation and will open on June 4.

Also operational are the 20 classrooms that the Department of Education (DedEd) put up inside temporary learning spaces in Barangay Sagunsungan.

DepEd said temporary classrooms will also be constructed for students that are still staying in evacuation centers. It might take a while because data on the number of students are still pending with the DSWD.

But DedEd assured that enough tents have been put up to provide students with proper education. — Raymond Octobre | UNTV News & Rescue
