LAOAG CITY, Philippines – Laoag City Vice Mayor Michael Fariñas was declared dead on arrival at Governor Roque Ablan Memorial Hospital following a car accident on Wednesday afternoon, June 6.
Based on the initial report of Laoag City Police, Fariñas was driving a black sports utility vehicle when he lost control of the steering while on a sharp curve along the by-pass road in Barangay Vira, Laoag City
Witnesses said they saw the vehicle speeding towards the north direction and swerved straight towards the rice fields.
His companion, SPO2 Melchor Geronimo, survived the accident but sustained a spinal injury.
