QUEZON CITY, Philippines – Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde has ordered the hunting down of “bashers” spreading fake news against the organization.

Albayalde cited a false report circulating on social media highlighting the country’s high crime rate as a factor for the Philippines to be ranked second among the most dangerous cities in the global survey.

The PNP Chief disproved such claim saying crime rate in the country has actually dropped by 18.42 percent in the first quarter of the year.

Albayalde said they are determined to file appropriate charges against the culprits.

“That is work upon by our ACG actually. Kapag na-identify natin iyan, we will file appropriate charges,” Albayalde assured.

Albayalde also suspects that some disgruntled cops are behind the scheme to damage the reputation of the institution.

“Puwede ding ang mga disgruntled o mga natanggal sa aming hanay ang mga nagkakalat ng mga ganito. It’s because sila ang may idea kung paano sirain ang image o palabasin na we have very bad peace and order situation in our country,” Albayalde said.

The Police Chief also announced his invitation to foreign critics to see for themselves the real peace and order situation in the country. As proof that the country is safe, Albayalde noted the annual increase in the country’s tourism arrivals.

“You cannot judge a country by just mere perception or reports or by just mere tsismis coming from everybody or by the news that you see every day. Hindi ito pwedeng basehan…It’s really unfair that they are judging us as the second most dangerous country on earth,” he concluded. – Lea Ylagan / Marje Pelayo
