MANILA, Philippines – A Social Weather Station (SWS) survey revealed that 1.5 million families (6.6%) fell victim to common crimes in the first quarter of 2018.

Among the common crimes mentioned in the survey were pick pocketing, theft, burglary, carjacking and physical violence.

The result was one point lower than 1.7 million (7.6%) in December 2017.

The pollster also declared that 1.4 million (6.1%) have fallen victim to common crimes such as street robbery, burglary, or carjacking in the past two quarters while .06 percent claimed they were victims of physical violence; 0.2 percent lower than 0.8 percent in December last year.

The survey was conducted by the SWS from March 23 to 27 using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults nationwide.

Meanwhile, Malacañang gave credit to the administration’s anti-crime and anti-illegal drugs campaign for the lowering of crime rate in the country.

Referring to the survey, Presidential Spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque said, “such public sentiment is certainly a big boost to the morale of our law enforcement agencies as we vow to continue to ensure the safety of all Filipinos.” — Rosalie Coz / Marje Pelayo
