QUEZON CITY, Philippines – The National Food Authority (NFA) has started distributing low-priced milled rice in Metro Manila markets.

The NFA rice remains at P27 to P32 per kilogram which is of the same quality as commercial rice that costs P43 to P47  per kilogram.

According to NFA Administrator Jason Aquino, the National Capital Region (NCR) will receive 1.5 million sacks from the total of 5 million sacks that the agency imported from Vietnam and Thailand.

Aquino added that they will strictly impose measures to make sure that appropriate volume will be delivered to its intended destination. Likewise, he asked the public to help the agency in monitoring the supply and retailing of rice in the market.

“I ask the public kung meron man kayong mga reports regarding diversion or re-bagging i-report sa amin,” Aquino said.

To date, the NFA already received 90% of the 250,000 MT of rice the agency imported from Vietnam and Thailand for the replenishment of its buffer stocks and distribution to public markets across the country. – Rey Pelayo / Marje Pelayo
