MANILA, Philippines – Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno announced Wednesday (June 27) that the year-on-year spending of the government increased by 12% as of May this year reaching up to P292 billion.
Diokno said most of the overall government disbursements funded the administration’s infrastructure projects as well as personnel services in a form of midyear bonuses to government employees and pay increase to soldiers and police.
In the first quarter of the year, Diokno said the government already spent P1.325 trillion.
Meanwhile, the Budget Secretary expressed confidence that the government will achieve its disbursement target of P813 billion for the second quarter. This would mean that the government is properly spending its allocated budget to its intended purposes. – Rosalie Coz / Marje Pelayo
