The Davao City Police is looking into the alleged spread of candy drugs in the city after a post about it went viral on social media.

According to the post, a type of candy drug known as “strawberry quick” is some form of crystal meth that is being sold in schools across the city.

This prompted the authorities to verify information and stop its proliferation before it can cause harm to the public, especially the children.

PRO 11 spokesperson, PCI Milgrace Driz said, “Even toddlers hindi natin alam baka maging biktima, so we have to see to it na ma ensure yung safety ng mga kabataan and ma proteksyonan natin lahat.

(Even toddlers are not safe from becoming victims, so we have to ensure the children’s safety and everyone else’s.)

Although there is online information regarding the suspicious sweets, there are no verified cases of minors using the drug. Nevertheless, authorities are not dismissing the reports.

“Nakaakakit, so paalala lang din natin sa ating mga kabataan na wag basta-basta tatanggap ng mga candy or whatsoever forms na iintake natin lalo na sa di natin kilala kahit sa mga kilala din natin, kailngan siguraduhin na safe yun,” Driz said.

(It is really enticing, that’s why we remind children not to be quick to accept candy or whatever things that you have to ingest, particularly from strangers. Even from people you know, you have to make sure it’s safe.)

Meanwhile, Police Regional Office Eleven Director Police Chief Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan has instructed school administrations to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) in strategic areas to boost monitoring of school campuses. — Dianne Ventura
