MANILA, Philippines – First-time registrants who wish to exercise their rights of suffrage in next year’s election may proceed to Commission on Election (Comelec) offices from July 2 to September 29.

During the said period, the poll body will accept new registrations and re-activations of voters who failed to vote in the previous two consecutive elections.

“Kung ikaw ay first-time registrant, ito ang first time mong papasok sa sistema ng halalan. Kailangan mong magpa-biometrics. Ibig sabihin pupunta ka sa Comelec office, magfi-fillout ka ng application form, ibibigay mo ang iyong tamang pangalan, tamang address,” explained Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez.

Meanwhile, those who wish to transfer registration because of change in residential address may also apply on the said dates.

“So kung lumipat ka from Quezon City, lumipat ka ng Cebu halimbawa—punta ka sa office ng Cebu at sabihin mo dati akong rehistrado sa Quezon City. Gusto kong ilipat ang rehistro ko ditto. Wala kang dadalhing papel. Wala kang dadalhing record. Automatic na gagawin ng Comelec iyon para sa iyo,” he added.

The poll body reminds all concerned to process their registration earlier than the deadline to avoid congestion in Comelec offices on the last day of registration.

Comelec is expecting around 1.5 million first-time registrants will flock the registration sites across the country.

Jimenez assured that they are prepared for the surge of registrants in the given dates.

Comelec also warns individuals distributing fake voters list in barangays ahead of the elections. For any violations of the election code, the public is encourage to inform the poll body through its website www.comelec.gov.ph or visit the agency’s official Facebook and Twitter accounts. – Mai Bermudez / Marje Pelayo
