QUEZON CITY, Philippines – Weather bureau PAGASA is monitoring the movement of a new low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).
As of 10:00 a.m. on Friday (July 13), the weather system was monitored at 560km east of Surigao City, Surigao Del Norte.
According to PAGASA, the LPA is possible to develop into a tropical cyclone over the weekend though it is expected to move to northern Taiwan taking the path of typhoon “Gardo.”
Should it develop into a tropical cyclone it would be named “Henry” and would be the country’s eighth this year.
Based on PAGASA’s forecast, moderate to heavy rains will be experienced in Mindoro, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite andPalawan inn the coming days due to the effects of the southwest monsoon or habagat. Flash floods and landslides are warned in the said areas.
Meanwhile, light rains will be experienced in Western Visayas, Cavite and Batangas.
The trough of the weather system still affects Metro Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga, Laguna, Rizal, Quezon, Surigao Del Norte, Surigao Del Sur, Compostella Valley and Davao Oriental while the rest of the country is expected to experience thunderstorms over the weekend. – Rey Pelayo / Marje Pelayo
