DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The Phil Tram Company plans to adopt a virtual train system similar to that of China.

A virtual train is an electrically-powered train that runs on a virtual track. Its seating capacity can accommodate up to 300 passengers and it uses hydrogen fuel cells to minimize pollution.

“It moves like a train but it’s like 3 or more buses combined together and it carries about 300 people at one setting for 3 couches and then it runs averagely 40-50 km/hr maximum of 70 km/hr,” said the company’s chief relation officer, Cerwin Eviota.

The entire massive transportation system costs around P6 billion to P8 billion.

The company wants its debut in Davao City.

“This is the home of our president. It is but fit that the model would come from his city,” Eviota said.

The Phil Tram Company is now coordinating with the local government of Davao City for the conduct of a three to six months feasibility study for the construction of the virtual train in the city. – Marje Pelayo (with reports from Marisol Montante)
