A full alert status has been raised over Mindanao region following the explosion in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat that killed two people and wounded 35 others on Tuesday night.

With vacation leaves cancelled, the entire police force of Mindanao will be on hand for deployment.

PNP chief PDG Oscar Albayalde said the incident can be considered a terror attack, noting that the bomb was placed in a crowded area amid the celebration of Hamungaya Festival, the founding anniversary of Isulan.

In line with this Albayalde has ordered an investigation into the incident especially after the ISIS-linked Turaife Group claimed responsibility for the blast.

“Meron ng grupong nagki-claim doon sa incident na yun and we believe it could be a terror attack although it is still being investigated,” Albayalde said.

Despite the prevailing martial law in Mindanao, the PNP Chief has ordered the strengthening of target hardening measures and police visibility in the area to prevent the infiltration of terrorists.

“Kaya tayo nag declare ng ating full alert status at yung ating checkpoint operations and of course yung kanilang Oplan Sita kailangan talagang pag-igtingin….to pre-empt these kinds of incidents ay kailangan pag-igtingin natin ang intelligence gathering natin,” Albayalde said. — Lea Ylagan
