QUEZON CITY, Philippines – Spilling operations continue in major dams in Luzon as water level remains higher than normal following the onslaught of Typhoon Ompong.
As of 6:00 a.m. on Monday, September 17, water level in Ambuklao Dam is at 750.89 meters and has opened seven radial gates.
Binga Dam, meanwhile, has 573.77 meters with six gates still open.
Water level in San Roque Dam is at 284.75 meters while in Magat Dam is at 190.89 meters. Both dams have two gates open.
Meanwhile, the Angat Dam has not opened its spill gates though its level increased by 4.74 meters overnight, reaching 211.51 meters.
The National Power Corporation (NPC) on Sunday in its advisory assured that “discharges will not cause flooding in the flood warning zones, and are being most carefully conducted to maintain normal water levels in the reservoirs.” – Marje Pelayo (with reports from Rey Pelayo)
