PANGASINAN, Philippines – Spilling operation in San roque Dam in Pangasinan has been ongoing since Saturday (September 15).
This is the reason why several towns face the threat of severe flooding as the spillage may cause rivers to overflow their banks.
“Naranasan natin iyong pinakamataas na pinasok na tubig sa San Roque Dam. Noong bumaba ang tubig galing sa Benguet umabot siya ng 613 meters. Ganoon siya kalaki,” said National Power Corporation (San Roque) spokesperson Odette Rivero.
San Roque Dam is the catch basin for water rushing from the mountains of Benguet particularly Baguio City and which is now causing the water level to rise very swiftly to its spilling level of 280 meters.
Meanwhile, the spillage from San Roque Dam eventually led to the rising of water level in rivers in the town of Santa Barbara, Calasiao and Dagupan, consequently flooding major roads.
Urdaneta to Dagupan City highway is currently inundated by knee-deep floodwater.
According to NPC, it might take up to the end of this month before the water level in San Roque Dam returns to its normal level. – Marje Pelayo (with reports from Nel Maribojoc)
