MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Agriculture (DA) is set to launch ‘mercy mission flights’ to help areas in Luzon that were ravaged by Typhoon Ompong.
According to Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol, the mission will use a 727 cargo plane lent by a businessman who is friends with President Rodrigo Duterte.
“It will be a test flight actually because they also would like to check how much it would cost them to bring fruits and other perishable food items from the distant places production areas of the country to the population centers like Metro Manila,” he said.
The mission flights, set to take off on Thursday (September 20), will transport food products to Cagayan Valley and Ilocos Region. — Charlie Barredo
