QUEZON CITY, Philippines – The Liberal Party (LP) has announced on Tuesday, September 25, its three official candidates for the 2019 senatorial race.
The event was led by Former President Benigno Aquino III and Vice President Leni Robredo.
The three candidates are incumbent Senator Bam Aquino, De La Salle College of Law dean Jose Manuel “Chel” Diokno and former House deputy speaker and Quezon representative Erin Tañada.
Among the issues they want to focus on include the lowering of prices of commodities, protection of human rights and free legal services among others.
“Marami tayong hinaharap na problema at marami pa tayong haharapin na baka lalong lumalang problema at talagang lalala yan pag tayo ay nagkamali ng itatalaga natin kaya dapat talaga mamili tayo ng itataguyod ang interes nating lahat,” said former President Aquino during LP’s national executive council meeting in Quezon City.
For her part, Robredo said being an LP member at this time is a challenge because of various criticisms plus its low rankings in surveys.
Nevertheless, Robredo cited the sudden turn of events during her time in 2016 when she was receiving less support in surveys but her votes rocketed during the actual election.
“Maaga pa para pag-usapan ang chances kasi in the middle of the campaign season umiiba ang ihip ng hangin nakita natin un nung 2016 presidential at vice presidential election,” said Rebredo.
Meanwhile, LP is likely to issue the rest of its senatorial slate on October 8, on the day of the filing of certificate of candidacy.
