MANILA, Philippines – The Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150 ordered on Tuesday, September 25, the arrest of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV over a rebellion case following the nullification of his amnesty through President Rodrigo Duterte’s Proclamation 572.
Judge Elmo Alameda granted the motion of the Department of Justice (DOJ) to issue an alias warrant of arrest and hold departure order against the senator.
The order, however, read: “Bail for temporary liberty of the accused is fixed at P200,000.”
Senator Trillanes yielded to the arresting officers as he promised Senate President Tito Sotto he would.
Trillanes has been staying inside the Senate office since September 4 after the Proclamation 572 was issued on August 30.
The senator filed a petition in the Supreme Court (SC) seeking to stop the implementation of the proclamation but SC junked the petition. — Marje Pelayo
