A protest rally calling for the ouster of President Rodrigo Duterte

PASAY CITY, Philippines – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) revealed on Tuesday (October 2) that they are monitoring movements in 10 universities in Metro Manila for an alleged link in the so-called Red October ouster plot against President Rodrigo Duterte.

Based on military intelligence report, there are groups of students believed to have been conniving with the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) to destabilize the Duterte government.

“In fact, they have already organized 10 of the universities in Manila.  Right now they are making a lot of information drive wherein they will show to the old high school and even college students different approaches during the Marcos regime and equate that to the present administration,” AFP Chief of Staff General Carlito Galvez Jr. said.

General Galvez, however, refused to disclose the names of the universities.

The AFP Chief of Staff said they already have a document to prove that CPP Founding Chair Joma Sison is having a series of conferences with people from the University of the Philippines.

“I can’t reveal it but I can reveal it in the executive session so that we can see the vast efforts of the CPP-NPA in order to oust Duterte,” Galvez said.

He also hinted some of the activities in the Red October program such as the Operation Talsik and Operation Aklasan where CPP-NPA members plan to stage a massive labor protest and tactical offense.

Military intelligence said the protest will be a series which the rebels plan to sustain until December in time for the CPP-NPA’s founding anniversary.
