A burning tricycle unit loaded with different types of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices in Bulacan, Bulacan
BULACAN, Philippines – A tricycle unit went ablaze when a firecracker sparked from the passenger seat on Wednesday (December 26) at Barangay Lolomboy in the municipal town of Bocaue.
The tricycle was loaded with different types of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices.
Witness Wilfredo Estrope said he tried to extinguish the fire but it went stronger until it burned the entire vehicle.
“Ang nangyari kanina, gumagas sa kalsada ang isang pailaw tapos nagsindi na. Dire-diretso siyang tumatakbo. Nang makita ko siya sa tapat ng Yamaha, sinabihan ko na sumisindi kako ang isang pailaw mo. Totally siguro hindi nya napansin, Hindi niya na ko narinig, biglang pagdating dito sumiklab na,” Estrope said.
However, he did not recognize the facial features of the driver who immediately fled the scene.
Authorities, meanwhile, ruled that there was no illegal firecracker from among the vehicle’s load except for several items like sparklers and fountains.
Still, the driver of the tricycle will face charges for transporting firecrackers without the necessary permits.
“Base doon sa witness nakita nyang loaded ang tricycle ng pyrotechnic devices. So ide-determine natin unang una kung iyon bang may dala ng tricycle at retailer at kung siya ba ay may kaukulang permit. Pangalawa if above 1000 kl ang dala nya sa kanyang tricycle mayroon ba silang compliance permit galing from Bureau of Fire at permit from PNP,” explained Boacue Police Chief PSupt. Amado Mendoza.
Meanwhile, the dealer or the store owner from whom the driver received the firecrackers will also be charged if they are proven illegal.
Police are still investigating as to where the firecrackers came from and to identify the tricycle driver who escaped from the incident.
Authorities are searching for a nearby CCTV to examine the footages hopefully to help in the case.
Meanwhile, around 20 police personnel are doing round-the-clock monitoring of firecracker stalls in Bocaue, Bulacan to stop trades of illegal firecrackers.
Authorities are determined to arrest sellers of illegal firecrackers under R.A. 7183 or the Act Regulating the Sale, Manufacture, Distribution and Use of Firecrackers and other Pyrotechnic Devices.
As of press time, the PNP has not yet recorded any incident of purchasing and selling of illegal firecrackers in Bocaue. – Marje Pelayo (with reports from Nestor Torres)
