ALBAY, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday (December 26) visited the wake of Ako Bicol Party list Rep. Rodel Batocabe in Legaspi City to personally expressed condolences to the bereaved family of the slain lawmaker.
There he announced that he is adding P20 million to the reward money for the capture of Batocabe’s assailants, raising the bounty to P50 million pesos.
Gerlie Batocabe, wife of the late solon expressed thanks over the president’s condolences.
“If no less than the president can help us eradicate all this if we can clean this small town one small at a time gladly welcome,” said Gerlie.
Malacañang has promised to bring justice to the slay case.
House Speaker Gloria Arroyo, Quezon City 6th District Rep. Kit Belmonte, together with Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, likewise, paid an early visit.
AAMBIS-OWA party-list Rep. Sharon Garin and other party-list representatives also visited the wake.
Former Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque also paid a visit and expressed loss for the death of Batocabe.
“We are all grieving we are all di lang shocked outrage pa kami na bakit nawalan po kami ng napakagaling na lider sa amin,and yung bayan na ito nawalan po sila ng possible good mayor,” said Cong. Sharon Garin.
Several senior citizens are grieving over the death of the lawmaker.
“Marami syang naitulong samin,kaya malapit sya sa puso namin lahat saming mga senior citizen natulungan niya,” said Norma Mirafuentes, a senior citizen.
“Talaga pong napakalaking kawalan,talaga pong mahal na mahal sya kasi marami po not only samin dito sa Daraga, even in Legazpi, buong Bicol kasi marami po talaga siyang tinutulungan,” said Mindaluz Minvi, a senior citizen. — Marje Pelayo (with reports from Joan Nano)
