The Department of Education (Deped) kicked off its Oplan Balik Eskwela Command Center on Monday (May 27) to respond to queries about the school opening.
Deped has assigned personnel to receive calls, complaints, and concerns from parents and students.
Based on the Deped’s data, around 27.8 million students are enrolled in 60,000 public schools in the country. This is 2.95% higher compared to the number of students enrolled in school-year 2018-2019.
The education department has also partnered with other government agencies including the Department of Health (DOH), the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The DPWH will aid in the construction of 80,000 wind and earthquake-proof school buildings.
Agnes Nofre visited Deped’s Command Center to ask for assistance regarding her situation. She plans to transfer her child, who is an incoming 4th-grade student, to a public school.
However, Agnes said they could not get her child’s credentials since they still have a pending balance of P30,000 in the said private school.
“Then ayaw din mag-accept ng promissory note iyong sa private na pinanggalingan namin, (The private school also does not want to accept our promissory note)” she said.
In response, Deped allowed her child to enroll while waiting for the credentials.
The hotline numbers are for the Command Center are: 636-1663, 635-9817, 638-7530, 633-1942, 638-8641, 638-7529 and 634-0222.
