Malacañang said there is nothing wrong with the Philippine National Police (PNP) consulting the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) in drafting the affidavit of Peter Joemel Advincula, alias Bikoy.
This is regarding the sedition complaint filed against Vice President Leni Robredo and other members of the opposition.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, it is mandated by the law to counsel when the Office [of the Solicitor General] is consulted.
“But you know, the SolGen is the lawyer of the Republic of the Philippines and all its clients are all offices and agencies of the government. Now, it is mandated under the law to counsel, to give lawyering activities to any of the offices when its office is consulted,” he said.
“There’s nothing wrong with that because it’s the duty of the SolGen on a lawyer-client relationship,” Panelo added.
Meanwhile, in a statement, the OSG said: “By law, the OSG is the principal lawyer of Republic of the Philippines, and all its agencies and departments, which includes, among others, the PNP-CIDG.”
“It is the OSG’s legal duty to serve its clients when they seek legal advice. The PNP-CIDG is our client, not Bikoy. Bikoy has his own private lawyer,” the statement further reads. —AAC (with reports from Rosalie Coz)
