The Philippine National Police (PNP) believes that it is still too early to talk about the extension of Martial Law in Mindanao.
PNP chief PGen Oscar Albayalde said Martial Law will still be in effect in the region until December.
“Who knows before December baka gumanda na rin ang sitwasyon doon [the situation there may already improve] and probably the president will no longer see the relevance of ML anymore,” the police chief said.
Albayalde, nevertheless, stressed that the PNP will intensify its monitoring in Mindanao so that terrorists will not be able to slip in the country.
The police official also urges the cooperation of local chief executives and the public for them to immediately apprehend those who will sow terrorism in the land.
“Para matapos na ang problema natin sa insurgency sa buong Pilipinas [To solve the insurgency problem in the Philippines] and this is whole government approach…whole nation approach,” he said. The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has earlier said that they are ready to support the recommendation of national security adviser Hermogenes Esperon to extend Martial Law in Mindanao.
