MANILA, Philippines — Naging sentro ng dayalogo sa Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management ang naging karanasan ng Pilipinas sa mga nagdaang kalamidad partikular na Super Tyhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).
Ngayong taon, naging tema ng ASEM ang “A Stronger Asia-Europe Partnership to Meet the Challenges of Mega Disasters”.
Sa pagbubukas ng plenaryo ngayong araw, ibinahagi ni European Union Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva ang kaniyang karanasan nang siya ay dumalaw sa Tacloban City at masaksihan ang pinsalang hatid ng Bagyong Yolanda.
“And there is no time to waste because of climate change disaster are more frequent and more severe.”
Sumentro sa mga naranasang kalamidad at krisis ng bansa noong nakaraang taon ang naging laman ng talumpati ni Pangulong Aquino.
Sinabi ng pangulo na naging malaking hamon sa pamahalaan ang pananalasa ng Bagyong Yolanda.
“At that point, it seemed like every development compounded the problem further. On top of this, our resources at that point were already stretched quite thin, as the super typhoon came on the heels of several other natural and man-made disasters, inluding a group of lawless elements laying siege to the city of Zamboanga, the earthquake in Bohol and Typhoon Nari.”
