Korte Suprema, pinigil ang disqualification sa Senior Citizens at Abang Lingkod Party-lists

MANILA, Philippines — Pinigil ng Korte Suprema ang pagpapatupad sa resolusyon ng Commission on Elections (COMELEC) na nagdidiskwalipika sa Senior Citizens at Abang Lingkod Party-lists.

Matapos ang special en banc session nitong Miyerkules, naglabas ng magkahiwalay na status quo ante order ang Supreme Court (SC) pabor sa Senior Citizens at Abang Lingkod na diniskwalipika ng COMELEC nitong nakaraang Mayo 10.

Inatasan rin ng Korte Suprema ang COMELEC na mag-reserba ng kaukulang bilang ng upuan sa kongreso para sa botong nakuha ng Senior Citizens party-list.

Batay sa resulta ng nakalipas na halalan sa party-list, pang-sampu ang Senior Citizens na nakakuha ng mahigit 670,000 na boto at may katumbas na dalawang upuan sa kongreso.

Nakakuha naman ang Abang-Lingkod party-list ng mahigit 250-thousand na boto, katumbas ng isang upuan sa kongreso.

Gayunman, sinabi ng SC na hindi muna maipoproklama ang dalawang party-list hangga’t walang final ruling sa petisyon.

“In the senior citizens case, the COMELEC directed is to reserve the seat or seats intended for coalition of Senior Citizens according to the votes it garnered in May 13, 2013 elections. Any proclamation of senior citizens party-list group is, however, held in abeyance until petitions are decided by court.”

Sinabi naman ni COMELEC Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr., na pag-aaralan nila ang buong nilalaman ng inilabas na status quo ante order ng kataas-taasang hukuman.

“Ibig sabihin nun hindi pa sila disqualified, kasi naka status quo ante, ok so it means hindi pa sila disqualified, they can probably seat.” (Roderic Mendoza & Ruth Navales, UNTV News)
