MANILA, Philippines — Three million more doses of China’s CoronaVac vaccines arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 on Sunday afternoon, September 26.
In a statement posted on Facebook, National Task Force (NTF) against COVID-19 chief implementer and vaccine czar Secretary Carlito G. Galvez, Jr. said the latest shipment will be deployed mostly in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4-A, 6, 7, 9, and 11.
Others will be deployed in Metro Manila to be used as second doses.
Galvez reiterated the government’s appeal to the public to get vaccinated, citing recent studies conducted in Malaysia that showed that the Sinovac-made vaccine is highly effective against severe disease and death, as he urged all qualified Filipinos to get the COVID-19 jab.
“We would like to encourage everybody na kung ano ‘yung dumating na vaccine very effective naman lahat at it prevents from any severe at hospitalization and death,” Galvez said.
The NTF also said that around 100 million doses of various COVID-19 vaccines are expected to be delivered to the Philippines by the end of October.
This newest shipment brings the total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses delivered to the country to 69,699,340, the statement added.
The NTF further stated that as of September 26, the Philippines has administered 43,815,426 doses.
Of this number, 23,609,600 have received the first dose, while 20,205,806 individuals are now fully vaccinated. This is 26% of the country’s target population.
“Hopefully before the end of the month maka-reach tayo ng 30% of our targeted population,” Galvez said.
