MANILA, Philippines – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Friday maintained that she is seeking reelection in the May 2022 national and local elections.
In her latest statement, Duterte-Carpio said she will run for mayor in the upcoming elections amid the persistent calls from her supporters to run for president.
“I am presenting myself to the Dabawenyos as Mayor for the third and last time in my life as a politician,” she said.
“I call on everyone to work together for an honest, orderly, and credible elections in May 2022,” she added.
The presidential daughter issued the statement as many of her supporters continue to hope and appeal that she reconsider her plan on the final day of candidacy filing.
Mayor Sara’s avid supporters have been conducting various activities to convince her to seek the presidency before the COC filing period closes on Friday, Oct. 8.
Various political groups have expressed their support for the presidential daughter should she decide to join the presidential race.
She has consistently topped pre-election surveys on presidential preferences for 2022 elections.
Duterte has filed her certificate of candidacy for reelection as Davao City Mayor last Saturday.
She once again thanked her supporters for their trust in her capability as a leader.
“I have been honored with the gift of trust and respect of many of our fellow Filipinos. A gift that is one in a million. Thank you to everyone who have expressed their support,” she said.
“Many of you do not know me and yet you carry me over your shoulders. Like the other millions of Filipinos, I share with you the same goal of living a peaceful and prosperous life in our country, today and in the many years to come,” she added.
Rumors on Mayor Sara’s possible filing of COC on Friday persisted after her father, President Rodrigo Duterte mentioned last Saturday that she will run for president with Senator Bong Go as her vice president.
