Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV has dared Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte yesterday to face-off on Monday and open his BPI account that allegedly contains P211 million.
“I will resign as a senator if I’m wrong,” declared Sen. Trillanes.
Today, the Mayor accepted Trillanes’ challenge.
“I just want it proper. That’s the procedure. You execute an affidavit. You accuse the person. Then, if the person, if he so desires to open up, then, show it,” Duterte said boldly. “Be there on Monday so we will know exactly how much. So he will know that I also have money,” he added.
“I called the bank, Atty. Panelo, today, to open it on Monday in front of Trillanes and Panelo,” Duterte told reporters.
Duterte, however, clarified that his lawyer will be representing him because he cannot meet with Trillanes in person as he was already scheduled to go back to Davao.
“I cannot go because I’m going home to Davao. Atty Sal Panelo will be there because he is my legal counsel,” Duterte explained.
The mayor admitted he has a BPI account but the amount deposited there is less than what Trillanes has alleged.
Duterte also insisted his money was not an ill-gotten wealth.
“2.4 billion that‘s an inordinate amount. Where did it come from? If it came from the government, if it came from illegal activities, then it’s corruption,” accused Sen. Trillanes.
“Where did I get it? I’ve been a Mayor for 22 years. Have you seen or heard of any charges? Corruption? I do not accept dirty money,” stressed Duterte.
Duterte plans to file charges against Trillanes.
Trillanes meanwhile was disheartened to learn that his 17-year old youngest kid is now the subject of bullying in social media after his revelation.
“Just recently, my kid was bullied in social media. I will go after them,”
Meanwhile, Duterte met privately with several governors that wish to align with him today.
Among them are governor Jovnic Remulla, who was the former spokesperson of Vice President Jejomar Binay and other Liberal Party members.
