MANILA, Philippines (May 9, 2016) — The national 2016 elections were generally peaceful amid one shooting incident in Rosario, Cavite, and bombings in Lanao Del Norte and Maguindanao.

According to PNP Chief PCSupt. Wilben Mayor, these incidents were isolated cases and did not affected the national elections.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said that they will closely watch the vote canvassing in the evening of May 9, saying this is a very crucial stage in the election process.

AFP Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla said the police and the military must bring flashlights and Petromax in case of power failure.
Padilla requested the public to report any suspicious individual in the polling centers.

The PNP is confident that the counting will be peaceful until the winning candidates are proclaimed.

The PNP and AFP continuously call for public cooperation to secure their votes and their personal safety.
