Bus operators convene at the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Office to find a solution for the worsening traffic in Metro Manila.

Atty. Tony Oposa, an environmentalist and road sharing advocate, led the meeting.

Bus operators agree that a dedicated lane for buses in Metro Manila must be implemented.

“They need a dedicated lane that is exclusive for them. No private vehicles so that they can move faster,” Atty. Oposa said.

Bus operators want to occupy three lanes.

Two of these are for the city buses while the third lane is for the point-to-point and provincial buses.

With these, travel time will be shorter.

Bus stops must also be utlized so buses will not load and unload passengers just anywhere.

“What happened is bus stops are not being guarded well by enforcers. What we need is strict implementation,” said Juliet de Jesus of City Bus Operator Association of the Philippines.

And because fewer lanes will be left for private vehicles, bus operators suggest that odd-even scheme must be re-implemented.

Under the scheme, all vehicles with plate number ending in 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 will be prohibited on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

While plate numbers ending in 2,4, 6, 8 and 0 will be prohibited on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

With these, roads in Metro Manila will be decongested.

The No Parking policy will also be strictly enforced so that secondary roads will be utilized.

“Our point here is to improve public transportation. People will leave their cars at home and use public transportation,” Atty. Oposa said in a statement.

MMDA said, the Metro Manila council will talk about the proposal before implementing it in Metro Manila.
